Whey is the clear liquid which is a byproduct of making cheese or yogurt.  You
(should) see it, for instance, when you open a container of commercially made
yogurt... or, for that matter, with homemade yogurt after touching the yogurt
with silverware or something else made of metal.

Some people pour off the whey when making yogurt or cheese.  Not me.
