Hi Beverly,

Stop looking for "real" bagels, and try Nancy Silverton's.  Of course you 
need to be into and somewhat adept at sourdough.  They are by far the best 
I have ever made, and almost as good as I have ever found, which therefore 
means better than standard bought.  My neighbours climb all over each other 
to be the ones who get some when I bake them.  Makes me very popular in the 
neighbourhood.
