There was a big thread about this on another recipe list I subscribe to 
(fatfree) and the list admin there said that recipes are *not* 
copyrightable under US law.  It is, however, a professional courtesy 
among cookbook authors, etc. to give credit where it is due and to use 
restraint.  It is not, however, illegal in any way to post recipes from a 
book or other published source to the Internet.  That was the conclusion 
from the fatfree list.  

Illegal or not, it is still rude to post a whole cookbook... (see 
courtesy note, above ;) )
