Susan:

I alway Spray a little PAM or equivalent into to hold of the paddle.  I do 
this out of the machine on a piece of paper towel.  I then take the excess 
and wipe it with the paper towel on the shaft.  I do this right after I 
wash the bread pan so it is ready for the next baking session.

This way, I never have sticking problems. Hope this helps.
