My microwave came with a temperature probe.  I put the water, milk,
butter or whatever is called for, into a glass dish, set the probe to
the proper temperature and then turn it on.  I stir the mixture with the
probe to be sure of the most accurate temperature.  Sometimes after
stirring I find it either too hot or too cool, so I do what is
appropriate.  I have never failed with this.  It is fast and convienent
too!
