I usually just lurk but after the question about the Hot Cross Buns that
where not spicy I thought this might help.

Wondering if you are using older spices. In time the oils in different
spices get old and do not have the zing even spices that you get in a store
new to you can have set there for a while. So just wondering if this could
be the trouble.
