I got lucky on my trip last year-- my hotel happened to be within 
walking distance of both Poilane's original bakery and one of Pierre 
Herme's fabulous shops.  Those and the ice cream place on the isle de 
la cite--Berthollin--(hope I'm remembering that location right) are 
well worth seeking out.
