RE: all crust no middle

In Italy I ran into a roll that was all crust and nothing in the 
middle.  As a butter lover, this was perfect for me, all crust no 
middle.  I asked how to make these these rolls, but they told me I needed a 
special machine.  I didn't believe them for they never pointed out the 
machine in their kitchen.  Does anyone know how to make these rolls.  I 
hope I'm going about the right way to ask this questions.
