this doesn't make sense to me, since every book I have says to rise bread in a warm place. have you tried letting it rise overnight in the fridge? YOu may have to make dough in the machine, rise in fridge and bake. I'd do tons at a time once you get a method that works so you don't have to heat up the house so much with the oven.
