There is a company called Loctite who make a teflon based spray lubricant
called Superlube which is food grade ( USDA  rated H-2 (whatever that means))
and a VERY effective reducer of friction. They have a website at
www.loctite.com - they may be worth an email - Superlube may be a safe answer
to your problem.
